Surgery Update 3

11:05 a.m. - The nurse practitioner just came out to give us an update. Emma is currently on heart/lung bypass, the pulmonary artery has been expanded and patched, and they are currently working on repairing the VSD (the hole between her two lower heart chambers). They blew up a balloon inside the pulmonary valve to stretch it out, which is encouraging, because it signals that the surgeon thinks the valve can be saved. They will not know for sure until the end of the surgery when they take a new echo cardiogram. We will receive another update at noon.
